Summary

Brian Robeson is a thirteen-year-old boy who is stranded in the Canadian wilderness after a plane crash. He must learn to survive with only a hatchet given to him by his mother. He learns to build shelter, hunt and fish for food, and make fire. He also encounters a variety of wild animals, including a bear, and eventually finds a way to signal for help.
