Summary
Stanley Yelnats is an unlucky teenager who is falsely accused of stealing a pair of shoes from a famous baseball player. He is sent to Camp Green Lake, a juvenile detention camp in the middle of the desert. There, he and the other inmates are forced to dig holes in the desert every day. Stanley soon discovers that the Warden is searching for something hidden beneath the surface of the lake. With the help of his newfound friends, Stanley must find a way to escape the camp and prove his innocence.
